Laurel Jennifer Fritz

Laurel Jennifer Wicklund Fritz, 41, of Rockford, passed peacefully into heaven and into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 26,2016 surrounded by her family. She was born August 7, 1974, the daughter of James and Georgeann Wicklund. She was a loving mother, wife, daughter, and sister. Laurel bravely fought metastatic breast cancer since 2009. She is survived by her loving husband, Dave; her beautiful daughter, Riley; her parents Jim and Georgeann Wicklund; her sister, Linette (Stan) Benes; Niece Kaitlyn; nephew, Nathan Benes; step children, Erin, Cait, and Megan Fritz; and many wonderful friends. She is predeceased by her maternal and paternal grandparents. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to "Friends of Laurel Fritz" at IL Bank and Trust, 6855 E. Riverside Blvd.

I became good friends with Laurel when I started teaching at the same school with her in North Chicago. She helped me through a difficult time in my life and I will always be grateful. She was a nice as any person I have ever met. Rest in peace.

Laurel was one of my first "Breast friends"!! She taught many of us in the support group the true meaning of warrior!!! I will miss her and her amazing smile so very much!!! Say hi to Heather and Amy for me!! I love you all!!!

Laurel was one of the first people I met in North Chicago. She has been a loyal friend since 2001. I am going to miss her terribly. She and I could laugh for hours and talk about nothing.
