Larry M. Gourley

Larry M. Gourley, 72, of Reidsburg, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Clarion Hospital. He was born on October 6, 1943 on the Gourley family farm in Reidsburg; the son of Paul and Lulu Elder Gourley. Larry graduated from Clarion High School in 1961 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving 8 years. He was married to Penny Custer on March 15, 1975, and she survives. Larry retired from Owen’s Illinois in Brookville after working 35 years. He also raised beef on the family farm. He was a member of the Cornerstone Church of Clarion. Larry was also a member of the American Legion Post 066 of Clarion. Larry enjoyed attending naval reunions for the U.S. Mispillion AO-105. He also enjoyed watching sports, attending football and basketball games with his friends, and shooting pool. Larry is survived by his wife, three daughters, Melissa Custer of Rimersburg, Paula Haines and her husband Ronald of Sligo, and Misty Gourley of Sligo, three grandchildren, Tanner Custer, and Amber and Dylan Haines, two great grandchildren, Azlia and Aiden Custer, two sisters, Garnett Thomas of Florida and Mona Rader of Limestone, a brother, Joseph Gourley and wife Evelyn of Reidsburg, and his cat Jake. He is preceded in death by his parents. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion and also from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Cornerstone Church in Shippenville where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Green pastor presiding. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 066 of Clarion at the Church. Interment will be in the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville. Memorials or donations can be made in Larry’s name to Clarion Paws, P.O. Box 804, Clarion, PA 16214 or the Cornerstone Church of Clarion, 3655 East End Road, Shippenville, PA 16254. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Robert V.
