Benjamin F. Skalsky

Benjamin F. Ben Skalsky, 82, died Monday, May 30 at UnityPoint Allen Hospital of cardiac arrest. He was born July 13, 1933 in Waterloo, son of Benjamin and Lillian Thompson Skalsky. He married Ellen Serfling on May 25, 1973. Ben worked at Cutler Hardware Store for 25 years and later worked for Waterloo Paper Company. He retired from Weber Paper Co. in 1998. He is survived by his wife; a son, Benjamin of Waterloo; four daughters, Brenda Skalsky of Waterloo, Patricia (James) Stimson of Waterloo, Kathleen Skalsky of Waterloo and Amy (Mamoon) Akhtar of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Essman of Cedar Falls and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis; his parents; eight sisters, Evelyn, Annabelle, Nellie, Christina, JoAnn, Delia, Francis and Phatima and some nieces and nephews. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be one hour prior to services.
