Obituary
Daniel Lee Smith was born on September 9, 1952 to the late Ernest and Myrtle Elizabeth Smith in Hacks Neck, Virginia. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Heritage Hall in Nassawadox, Virginia. Daniel was reared in Northampton County, Virginia and attended Northampton County public schools. In his youth, he gained the nickname “Pimp”, which he was affectionately called throughout his lifetime. After completing Job Corps, he worked at various agricultural farms on the lower and upper eastern Shore of Virginia. Daniel worked over twenty-five (25) years at Bayshore Concrete Products (BCP) Corporation and during his tenure, he became a Foreman. While at BCP, Daniel was respected for his leadership and hard work, which led to him having many close friends who looked up to him. He enjoyed cooking and his favorite dish to cook was pig feet and potato salad. Daniel even peeled his own white potatoes. Pimp loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles of one-thousand pieces or more. Daniel was a self–taught master mechanic. He would use a tree branch and a chain with a come-along as a cherry picker to remove engines. “Pimp” would wake up before sunrise to start removing engines and have the car running before night fall. He showed his compassion by passing along his mechanic and car painting skills. Lastly, he was a football fanatic knowing the players and their individual stats. At an early age, Daniel and his close friend, Joseph L. Smith (“Joe Boy”), were gospel group performers, Eventually, he attended Bethel Baptist Church and later became a member of the church. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his sisters, Barbara Smith from Maryland and Emma Satchell (Alex) from Virginia; one daughter, Stephanie Lyons from Virginia; stepchildren, Yvonne Upshur, Ernest Upshur, Mary Upshur, Clarence Upshur and Tyrone (Pamela) Upshur; nephews, Marshal, Quennel, Dion, Octavius, Marcus, Torino, Alex, Jr., Demetrius and Cleophus; niece Anitsha; seventeen grandchildren; four great grandchildren and host of family and friends. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ernest Smith and lifelong companion, Mary Helen Upshur. SORROWFULLY SUBMITTED, THE FAMILY
