Agnes J. (Powers) Raymond, age 81, of Swampscott, died Wednesday, surrounded by her loving family, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late John F. Raymond. Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Leo J. and Jane Margaret (Canniff) Powers. She was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. She had lived in Swampscott for the past 45 years. Agnes worked for the Lynn Public Schools for 35 years until her retirement. Agnes was a devoted and loving mother and "Nana". She was happiest spending time with her children and their families during holidays and get-togethers. Her grandchildren (Jared and Jimmy) were the lights of her life and she was so proud of all their achievements. Agnes was a strong, loyal and very caring woman. She maintained close relationships with her childhood friends while gaining many new friends during her life's journey. Her easy going compassionate demeanor made her a popular companion in her circle of friends. Agnes was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott. She loved spending time at the beach and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her son, James Raymond, her daughter, Jacklyn Raymond and her partner Brian Mapes of Swampscott; her daughter-in-law, Suzanne Raymond; her grandson, James Scott Raymond of Boxboro, her siblings, Gerard Powers of Lynn, and Marcella Perotti and her husband John of Topsfield; her cousins, Peggy Beltran and her husband Gus, Gerry Griffin and his wife Lorraine and Diane Dieter and her husband Bob; her nephews, John and Jeremy Perotti of Topsfield and her many nieces and great nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Army Specialist Jared Raymond and sister of the late Margie Iodice and Leo Powers. She was also predeceased by her beloved aunts, Joie Griffin and Kay Toomey. The family would like to thank the staff of Care Dimensions and Advinia Health Care for the exceptional care given to Agnes during the last few years of her life. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9AM from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St. (Rt 1A), Lynn, followed by a funeral mass at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Specialist Jared Raymond Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Eastern Bank, 405 Paradise Rd, Swampscott, MA 01907.
