Debra "Debbie" Simpson Smith Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Debra “Debbie” Simpson Smith, at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Alexandria. Reverend Daniel O’Connor, Pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and services. Interment will follow in Trinity Episcopal Cemetery, Cheneyville, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria. The family asks that visitation be observed Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Alexandria from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral procession to the church. Pallbearers honored to serve are Don Thomas, Phil Thomas, Billy Thomas, Cole O’Dell, Brooks O’Dell and Darren Campo. Honorary pallbearers are Sean Johnson, Jamie Philen, Tripp Philen and Branch Smith. Debbie was a parishioner at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. During her working career she was the Director of the Central Louisiana Pro Bono Project for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and cooking but her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Debbie was dearly loved, will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Laura Bodin Simpson. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 47 years, Gary Smith; sons, Bruce O’Dell (Lee) and Justin Smith (Avery); daughters, Courtney Smith Johnson (Sean) and Lacey Smith Philen (Jamie); grandchildren, Cole O’Dell, Brooks O’Dell, Mary Margaret O’Dell, Avery Polk, Anna Claire Polk, Ella Polk, Aiden Johnson, Evan Polk, Georgia Kate Philen, Tripp Philen, Vivian Philen, Molly Smith and Branch Smith; sister, Faye Simpson; nephew, Darren Campo; niece, Carmen Vanderlick and a host of other family members and friends.
