Violet M. Borner Obituary

Violet M. Borner, age 98 of Old Cottage Grove, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2019, at Johanna Shores in Arden Hills. Violet Marie, the third child of ten of Anders "Gus" G. and Ida "Eda" M. (Carlson) Holmstrom, was born on September 27, 1921, at home in Etter, Minnesota. Following her education, Violet worked at the family farm. She later worked in St. Paul as a housekeeper with her sister Lucille, and would ride the train back and forth on the weekends. On August 21, 1943, Violet married the love of her life, Earl Borner, at the First Baptist Church in Hastings. Violet loved the Lord and was a dedicated church volunteer in many various ways. She enjoyed bowling with Earl, gardening, and milking the cows at the farm, which she did up until 2001. She was also actively involved with 4-H and the Farm Bureau with Earl. After Earl's death, Violet looked after all the widowed ladies and delivered fresh baked goods to those who were shut-ins. She was a great cook and will always be remembered for her caramel rolls, sugar cookies and rice pudding. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; siblings, Linnea Pajerski, Lucille Pike, Clarice Valois, Verlin Holmstorm, Kenneth Holmstrom, Paul Holmstrom, James Holmstrom, and Marjorie Terveen. Violet is survived by her children, Laurence (Donna) Borner, Wallace (Jan) Borner, Gordon (Julie) Borner, Leonard (Linda) Borner, Richard (Lori) Borner, Gloria (Scott) Coltrane, Janet (Nathan) Balzer, and Gary (Jane) Borner; 28 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren with two more on the way; sister, Betty (Loren) Deering; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Friday, December 13, 2019, at River of Life Church in Hastings, with Pastor Steve Schoenwald officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon at church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Camp Lebanon (https://camplebanon.org/donate/) in Violet's honor. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
