James Hugh Nickerson

James Hugh Nickerson was born in Longcreek, Oklahoma on January 9, 1945 to Luther V. Nickerson and Marie Nickerson. He attended school and received his high school education in Hugo, Oklahoma. He joined the AME Methodist Church at an early age. James enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 17, 1968. He received an Honorable discharge from the Air Force, September 17, 1970. Later he met and married Etta Mae Lauder in May 1971 in Reno, Nevada. to their union they had two daughters, Marie Nickerson and Diane Nickerson. He was employed with the United States Government and earned the General Services Administration Citation Special Achievement Award for ten years of service. He was also employed with the University of Nevada Reno. Upon retirement, James received an award for 25 years of loyal service. James was a very caring individual and very generous to all he came in contact with. Before his health begin to fail his hobby was fishing and eating many hearty meals. James departed this life on November 16, 2019. He is preceded in death by his great Aunt Mattie Potts, Grandmother, Mary J. Hall and his brother, Chester Ray Nickerson. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Marie Brown of Reno, Nevada; sister Dorothy Morris of Pacoima, California. Two daughters, Marie Nickerson and Diane Nickerson; granddaughter Lalila Hooker; nephews Jammie Morris (Brenda), Lazelle Morris (Terri). Ten great nieces and nephews; four great-great nieces and nephews. A host of cousins, other relative and friends. James was loved by all and will be missed by many.
