Candace Faye Couch Peoria, Arizona Obituary

Candace Faye Couch

Candace Faye Couch (January 2, 1952-May 15, 2016) was a treasured mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She passed away in her home in Peoria, Arizona on Sunday. She was 64 years old. Candy was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and a few years later moved to Tomah with her family. There, she enjoyed a happy childhood complete with the addition of a new sister. One activity she particularly enjoyed at the time was camping at a lake in Hatfield where she developed a lifelong disdain for blueberries (the reason being that she found a snake in her blueberry basket when she was little). Candy attended Tomah High School where she was highly involved in the music program. Her life for those four years revolved around playing the drums, accompanying other musicians, and singing in the choir. She developed lifelong friends in high school, and always considered her days there as some of the best days of her life. She later attended one year of college as a music major, but discovered that her true passion was in helping people through nursing. After attending the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1971. There, she attended the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing. From that point on, she had a successful nursing career, working in places like Cigna, Arizona Medical Clinic, Banner, and numerous other health care facilities. Candy married in 1984 and subsequently divorced, but not before having a daughter she adored. Candy was a cherished member of a large family, a valued contributor to the various churches where she was involved, namely St. John's Lutheran Church, where she served as an accompanist, occasional organist, church council member, and member of a trio with her sister, daughter, and two dear friends. Toward the end of her life, she took an early retirement due to health concerns. Candy is survived by her only child, Melissa Couch of Glendale, Arizona; her father Eugene Meier of Sun City, Arizona; her sisters Cheryl Oestreich and Barbara Kindermann and their families, respectively of Peoria, Arizona, and Phoenix, Arizona; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and countless friends. A memorial service celebrating Candy's life will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Heritage Funeral Home located at 67th Avenue and Thunderbird in Glendale, Arizona. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations would be made on Candy's behalf to Candy's favorite charity, Operation Smile.
