Virginia R. Russell, longtime Muskogee resident passed from this life on Tuesday November 19, 2019 in Wagoner, OK. She was 84. She was born on March 9, 1935 in Meeker, OK the daughter of Cleveland and Jennie (Thompson) Copeland. She grew up in McAlester, OK and graduated from McAlester in 1953. Virginia moved to Muskogee in 1954 and was married to Joe Russell on September 8, 1957. She worked for banks in McAlester and Muskogee for thirty seven years. Virginia worked for City Bank which later became BancFirst for seventeen years where she became the first female loan officer in Muskogee. She was a faithful member of Trinity Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She and Joe were members of bowling leagues for many years and also members of the Good Sam Camping Club for 16 years along with her brother and his wife. She enjoyed walking in the mall and cross stitch. Virginia is survived by her son Steven Russell of Muskogee; her daughter Lori Butler and husband Jimmy of Wagoner; three grandchildren, Justin Cantrell of Keys, Blake Cantrell of Tahlequah and Kyndle Cantrell of Tulsa and one brother Doyle Copeland. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, one brother Floy Dean Copeland and an infant sister. Our family entrusted our Loved One to the caring professionals at Good Shepard Hospice. The family acknowledges, with great appreciation the expression of loved showed in our time of bereavement. We offer our special thanks to Willa Mae Wright. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday November 22, 2019 at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home in Muskogee with Pastor Cody Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Noon at Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the care and direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.
