Jean W Graber Obituary

Jean W. Graber, age 91, of Golconda, Illinois died October 24, 2015 at home.   Jean was born Charles W. and Bertha Christina Weber on September 12, 1924 in a farmhouse near Cedar point, KS. She married Richard (Dick) R. Graber on November 25, 1945.   Jean received a BS degree from Washburn Municipal University in 1945. Became a Medical Technologist (ASCP) at Lattimore Laboratories in Topeka, KS and was employed there 1945-1948. Then she received a MA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI in 1949. Jean collected birds in San Luis Potosi, Mexico for Louisiana State University in 1950. Returned to USA and worked as an MT at Stormont-Vail Hospital in 1952. Attended University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK 1952-1956, received a PhD in 1958 in Biology with a minor in Botany. Jean worked in the Animal Science Department of the University of Illinois 1960-1972 starting as a Research Associate and becoming Assistant Research professor. She worked with R.R. Graber at the Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS) 1957-1959 doing a census of Illinois birds; 1972-1983 with R.R. Graber at INHS. Retired 1983 and moved to a farm 5 miles N. of Golconda, IL.   Jean is survived by a brother, Maynard E. Weber; several nieces and nephews.   Jean wishes were to be cremated and have no service. Aly Funeral Home in Golconda, IL is in charge of arrangements.
