Shirley Ann Gust

VERONA - Shirley Ann Gust, age 80, of Verona, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on August 4, 1939, in Green County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Adolf and Marie (Amacher) Marty. Shirley married Robert Ralph Gust on Feb. 27, 1957, at Salem United Church of Christ in Verona where they were life-long members. They were married 57 years until his passing on Nov. 11, 2014. A loving mother and homemaker, Shirley was a remarkable cook and enjoyed trying new recipes for her family and friends. She worked side by side with her husband Robert on the family farms in Verona. After her children were grown, Shirley started working outside the home first at Kalscheur's Fine Foods in Mount Horeb and then American Girl in Middleton. Shirley enjoyed traveling, quilting, knitting and solving a daily Sudoku puzzle. Each month, she enjoyed getting together at Marty Mondays with her fellow “Marty Girls”, family and friends. Shirley is survived by her children, Thomas (Kari) Gust, Tony (Marilyn) Gust, Sharon (Richard) Hunt and Karyn (Neal) Gust-Brey; nine grandchildren, Sara Schlimgen, Alissa Schlimgen, Jamie Schlimgen, Riley Brey, Aidan Brey, Quinn Brey, Justina Bond, Alex Gust and Jenna Gust; one great-grandchild, Isabell Bond; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brother, Walter Marty, and sisters, Ann Olson, Ruth Hendrickson, Wilma Shumate , Betty Kuhls, and Marie Peterson. A funeral service will be held at SALEM UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 502 Mark Dr., Verona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019. Burial will be held at Verona Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, Mount Horeb, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
