James Arnold Chestnut, Sr. Obituary

On Saturday, November 16, 2019, Daddy finished his journey on earth and went to meet Mama. What a joyous reunion that must have been! Daddy was born in Duplin County on November 26, 1923 to the late Willie J. Chestnut and Mary Lillie Pate Chestnut. Approaching his 96th birthday, Daddy left a beautiful legend of service to his Saviour Jesus Christ, his church, and his family. Often speaking of his favorite Bible passage, John 4 (The Woman at the Well), Daddy used hundreds of Bible verses that he had committed to memory in service to his many acquaintances, friends, and large family. His biblical knowledge was a base for his wisdom, which people often sought for direction in life. A World War II veteran, Daddy had a zealous work ethic and his spirit of determination was evident in his 40 year business career at Sears, his consistent involvement with the church and school at Second Baptist Church and his current business project, 24 – 40 RV Park in Duplin County. Daddy also enjoyed the pleasures of the family farm in Princeton, NC. Mama Jewel preceded Daddy in death on July 14, 2009, as did two brothers, Elwood Chestnut and Rudy Chestnut and two nephews, Kelvin Parks and Dwight Chestnut. He is survived by three sisters, Eloise Baker, Mary Lilly Parks and Verla Tew. He leaves his life legacy to five children: Jay Chestnut and LaVerne; Mike Chestnut and Sherry; Stan Chestnut and Edith; Emily High and Louis, and Beth Holloman; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with Dr. Tom Harper officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday immediately following the service at the cemetery. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of Johnston UNC Health Care and Johnston UNC Hospice in Smithfield, NC for their kindness and care. Also a special measure of gratitude to the grandchildren that were involved in Daddy’s final care. May God bless each one of you. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fundamental Broadcasting Network at Grace Missionary Baptist Church, 520 Roberts Road, Newport, NC 28570 or to Second Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1317, Goldsboro, NC 27533. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
