Joseph L. Koval, aka Larry and Hunky by family and friends, 81, of Hamilton, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at home. Born in Trenton, Larry grew up in Chambersburg and was a graduate of Trenton Central High School. He and his family resided in Hamilton Square for over 50 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a diehard John Wayne fan. Larry had multiple careers during his 81 years, including working for Western Electric (Bell Telephone) for 30 years. He then operated his own electrical business, Koval Electric Company, and was an electrical inspector for Hamilton Township before finally retiring for good in 2008 to care for his ailing wife. Larry was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, a member of the Central Jersey Electric League, the Hamilton Elks and the Marine Corps League for many years. Predeceased by his parents, John J. and Martha (Vanczak) Koval; his wife of 50 years, Shirley A. Koval; his sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Leo Wilke; his brother and sister-in-law, John M. and Elizabeth Koval; his nephew, John M. Koval Jr; and his niece, Barbara A. Koval; he leaves behind to cherish his memory and to share Pop stories his daughter, Denise Koval and her companion, Jay Dempster, of Hamilton; his sons and their wives, Joseph Jr. and Carolyn Koval of Olympia, WA and Daniel and Jennie Koval of Hamilton; his grandchildren, TJ (Wendy) Maciolek, Jessica (Daryn) Iwicki, Nick (Lauren) Maciolek, Julie, Adam and Casey Koval, Alice (Chris) Schmidt, Devin Koval, Anna (Andrew) McMahon and Beth-Anne (Bryan) Koval; his great-grandchildren, Reagan, James, Amberli, CJ, Charlotte, Kelan, Drake and Kashton; his nephew and nieces and their families in Durham, ME; and his sister-in-law, Linda Montani of Hamilton. The family wishes to thank Isabelle Hernandez and her family and the staff at Comfort Keepers for their care of Joseph. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Our Lady of Sorrows RC Church, 3816 East State Street Ext., Hamilton, NJ. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Hamilton, NJ. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home.
