MARTHA ELIZABETH (STEEVE) SNYDER, age 87 of Sidney, IA passed away Saturday November 16, 2019 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, IA following an extended illness. Martha was born July 18, 1932 in Clarinda, IA to John Adolph Steeve and Bertha Lydia (Warneke-Door) Steeve. She attended grade school at Frog Valley in Bedford, IA and was a 1950 graduate of Bedford High School. Martha was married to Harold Dean Snyder on October 1, 1950 at the Bedford Baptist Parsonage. Martha worked for the Taylor County Attorney for 2 years and then she joined her husband, Harold, who was in the United States Navy. During Harold’s Military Service, they lived in Oklahoma, Florida and Norfolk, VA. Their first son, David Allen Snyder, was born while Harold was in the Navy in Portsmouth Naval Quanset. Harold was Honorably Discharged after 4 years when they moved to Fremont County, Iowa to the Cordelia Steeve farm. Cordelia was an Aunt of Martha. Roger Lee Snyder was born in Shenandoah, IA while they lived on the Cordelia Steeve farm. The family continued to live there for 40 years before Harold and Martha built a new house on the hill. Growing up as a baby, Martha was baptized in the Lutheran Church of Clarinda and was later a member of the Berea Church of Christ. At the age of 13, she was baptized in a farm pond. Martha joined the United Methodist Church with her husband around 1960 and remained a member transitioning to the Sidney United Faith Church. Martha was a Sunday School Teacher for 25 years, a 62-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, a Past President of the Past Presidents of the American Legion Auxiliary, Past President of the Rural Homemakers Club, longtime member of the United Methodist Women, a 50-year member of the Sidney Garden Club, Plum Creek Boat Club and the Dudes and Dolls Square Dancing Club. Martha and Evelyn Birkby were instrumental in remodeling of the North Room in the old Sidney United Methodist Church and worked for many years in the UMC Sidney Rodeo Food Stand. Harold always told Martha he loved her before bed. Martha enjoyed the farm life, raising pigs and driving the grain trucks, being sure to put on her Red Lipstick before going into the Grain Elevator. She enjoyed working with Harold for 35 years in the Fremont County Real Estate Office as Secretary, Bookkeeper and Office Manager. Martha traveled to every State in the Country except Alaska and enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, boating, skiing, playing cards and going square dancing. Survivors include sons, David Allan Snyder and Fiancé Robyn Richter of Grimes, IA and Roger Lee Snyder and wife Jeannie of Sidney, IA; 4 grandchildren, Shannon Snyder and wife Alise of Sidney, Mindy Nelson and husband Eric of Walnut, IA, Katie Princehouse and husband Marty of Huxley, IA, and Michael Snyder of Algona, IA; 8 great grandchildren, Heidi, Halle and Zeb Hall, Shaye and Sloane Snyder, and Andrew, Molly and Alex Princehouse; step grandchildren, Lane and Ty Nelson; sisters-in-law, Lola Steeve, Fern Mingus and Betty Cook; brothers-in-law, Leo Snyder and Eddie Snyder; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Snyder; 2 brothers, Harold Eugene Steeve and wife Delores, and August Fred Steeve; sister, Julia Standage and husband Dale; special niece, Susan Howman; daughter-in-law, Linden Snyder; brother-in-law, Doyle Mingus; and sisters-in-law, Donna Pitman and husband Gary and Eleanor Boyle. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Sidney United Faith Church with Pastor Leah Elrod and Pastor Joni Hickey officiating. Visitation will be open after 5:00 PM Tuesday, and the family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA. Interment will be in the Sidney, IA Cemetery and memorials will go to the Sidney United Faith Church. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.
