Thomas L. Black Thomas L. Black, 85, of Dunbar passed away on Saturday, November 16 at his home. He was born in McDunn, WV. Tom was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Air Force from 1951-55. He is a graduate of East Bank High School, WV Tech and he obtained his Master's from Marshall. He was a member of Chelyan Masonic Lodge 158 AF&AM, Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston, also past secretary for the Beni Kedem Shriners, the Legion of Honor, Royal Order of Jester's and American Legion. Tom was a former Mayor of East Bank from 1959-60, a member of the Legislature from 1961-66, and County Commissioner from 1973-1978, he was a teacher at Woodrow Wilson and Dupont Junior Highs, and a small business owner for over 30 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Benjamin F. and Margaret E. Black; along with six brothers, one sister, one grandchild and one great grandchild. Tom is survived by his loving wife Ethel, his children Thom (Caryn) Black, Patty (Harry) Childress, Paul (Guyla) Black, Micki (Brad) Simon, Thomas (Helen) Talbert, 13 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Service will be at 11:00AM on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Hafer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Big Chimney with Masonic graveside rites by the Chelyan Masonic Lodge 158 AF&AM. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 5-8PM at Hafer Funeral Home.
