Teresa George Berwanger, of East Arcade, died Saturday November 16, 2019 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw where she had resided for over five years at the age of 102. She was born June 26, 1917 in Java, New York a daughter of the late Alphonse and Louise (nee Gebel) George. Mrs. Berwanger graduated from Arcade High School, Eastman School for Dental Hygienist and the State University of Buffalo. She retired from Pioneer Central School as a Dental Hygiene teacher and also taught in Attica and Warsaw and at the New York State Department of Health pre-school clinics. She was also an auxiliary volunteer at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL and during World War II was an inspector at Bell Aircraft in Niagara Falls. She was an active member of St. Mary's Church in East Arcade and Our Lady of Hope in Daytona Beach, FL, the National Council of Catholic Women and the NYS Retired Teacher's Association. Her husband Kenneth Berwanger whom she married August 24, 1946 died April 16, 2009. She is survived by her children - A. Douglas (Johanna) Berwanger of Arcade, Denis (Nancy) Berwanger of Silver Springs, Julianne Berwanger of Arcade, Benedict (Patricia) Berwanger of King, NC; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law - Charles Mayer and her siblings - Dorothy Melvin, Clara Kreutter, Leona Dominick, Aloysius and Bernard George. Friends may call Saturday November 23, 2019 from 10-11 am at St. Mary's Church, East Arcade, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am with Rev. Joseph Gullo officiating.
