Ray Onus Cole

Ray Onus Cole of Winchester was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on Friday, November 8, 2019. He was 81 years old. Born on November 4, 1938 in Franklin County, he graduated from Franklin County High School in 1956 and immediately joined the Air Force. He was a general contractor, cabinet maker, master woodworker. For several years he created spectacular custom homes, intricate and unique cabinetry, wonderful furniture pieces for friends and fundraisers. When presented with a cabinet or woodwork challenge, his standard response was “No Problem”. He was baptized on June 28, 1970 and he became licensed and ordained to preach in 1974. He served as pastor of the Elk River and Beech Hill Baptist Churches and preached at several others. In 2008, he became an associate pastor and member of Greenhaw Baptist. He enjoyed traveling and took ten trips to the Holy Land as well as trips to Alaska, Mediterranean, and Panama Canal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph & Era Hopkins Cole; brother, Parker Cole, nephew, Ricky D. Foster; and brother-in-law, Vernon Foster. He is survived by his dear friend Barbara Swann Weaver; Wendi Weaver who was like a daughter; his sister, Irene (Wayne) Cole Foster Hill; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; all of Barbara’s family; and the congregation of Greenhaw Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Monday, November 11, 2019 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 12, 209 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. Donald Gregory and Rev. Kevin Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens with Bobbie Woodall, Eddie Woodall, Jarod Woodall, Justin Woodall, Michael Gipson, Wayne Huffer, Doyle Huffer and David Floyd serving as pallbearers and Coleman Boswell serving as honorary pallbearer. Memorial contributions may be given to the Greenhaw Baptist Church or the Pat Summitt Foundation to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s.
