Lawrence Payne, Jr.

Mr. Lawrence Payne, age 95, of Cedar Bluff, VA passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 23, 1924 in Lex, WV. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a retired Master Sergeant after 23 years with the US Air Force. He served during WW II, Korean War, and Vietnam War having received many awards including Air Force Longevity Service Award with one silver OLC, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with six bronze stars, Distinguished Unit Badge, and several other awards. Mr. Payne was also a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Payne, Sr. and his mother, Hazel Robinson Payne; two sons, John and Kenny Payne; two brothers, Arnold and Hufford Payne; two sisters, Edna Thornberry and Eloise Puckett; two granddaughters. Mr. Payne is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Ruth Hill Payne; five children, Randall Lowe and wife Jennifer; Jerald Lowe and wife April, Brenda Tuttle, Cathy Springer, and Jeff Payne and wife Debbie; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special grandchildren, Leah Kay Lowe and Jeremy Ryan Lowe and wife Kirsten; special great- grandson, Brayden Lowe. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 23rd at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, VA. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 24th at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Richard Jessee officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Casey-Short VRW Post 9640 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
