Renee Teresa Thompson, age 84, passed away at home on October 10, 2019, surrounded by her husband and daughters. Renee was born on July 11, 1935 in Staples to Ben & Mary Ann (Albers) Lyons. She was raised in Brainerd by her mother and stepfather, Reino Baakonen. Renee was employed over the years by several banks in Brainerd, retiring from BN Credit Union in 2003. She married Jerry Thompson on April 19, 1958. Renee spent her time reading books, doing crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. Family card games were sometimes intense and memorable. Her most prized possession was her enormous Snow Village Collection, which started as a gift from Jerry. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jerry of Brainerd; daughters: Kassie Carlson, Jeri Lee (Roger) McCuskey, and Michelle (Steve) Hayes all of Brainerd; sisters: Barb Anderson of Eagle River, Alaska and Diane Eksten of Brainerd; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Renee is preceded in death by her father; mother; stepfather; sister, Donna Jean Garro; brothers-in-law: Larry Garro, Bob Anderson and Alvin Eksten. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, October 14, 2019 from 2-5PM at Halvorson Taylor Life Events Center (512 South 8th St). Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
