William Matheny

William C. Matheny, 88, of Shinnston passed away on Wednesday October 9, 2019 at River Oaks Nursing home. He was born on April 3, 1931 to the late Melvin C. Matheny and Mary Margaret Anderson Matheny. He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Grooms; son, William E. Matheny and his wife Nancy all of Shinnston; sister, Carolyn Demars of Florida; grandchildren, Michael Shakespeare, Kristopher Grooms and his wife Tasha, Korey Grooms of Morgantown; great-grandchildren, Ivie Shakespeare, Gunnar Shakespeare, Aubrey Grooms and Carter Grooms, along with several nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his wife Janet Doreen Matheny; sisters, Barbara Matheny and Lois Ruckman as well as his son-in-law Bill Grooms. He was the owner of Shinnston Glass for 48 years, a member of the American Legion Post 31 and served in the U.S. Marine Corp. William enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren. Friends and family will be received at Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike Street, Shinnston WV, on Friday October 11, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at Harmer Funeral Home on Saturday October 12, 2019 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Kevin Nuzum officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
