Shella L. Suber
Our dearest Shella Loretta Suber, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on September 12, 2019 with her husband, Ernest, by her side. She lived a life of example and grace. Her welcoming soul, inviolable faith, and steadfast love of family will be missed by so many. Shella was born on April 23, 1954 at Silas B. Hayes Army Hospital on the former Fort Ord to LeeRoy Sr. and Louise Richardson. She was the oldest of two children. Her brother, LeeRoy Jr., joined their family a year after Shella was born. Together, they grew up on Mingo Avenue in Seaside, California developing lifelong bonds with neighbors and schoolmates. Shella attended Highland Elementary School, Portola Junior High, and graduated from Monterey High School in 1972. It was there that Shella met the love of her life, Ernest. On December 27, 1972, Shella married Ernest in a small, family centered ceremony at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Seaside. In 1973 the couple welcomed their first daughter, Tamura. Continuing to be the ever gentle, caring soul, Shella took to motherhood as one of her many callings in life. In 1977 they welcomed their second daughter, Joy. Then, in 1980, along came a baby of a different type; a boy, Marcus. Never a dull moment with a husband and three kids! While raising her family, Shella went back to school and graduated from Monterey Peninsula College and Maureen Church Coburn School of Nursing in 1986. She spent a brief period of time caring for patients at a skilled nursing facility prior to impacting the lives of so many at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. It was there that she enjoyed 29 years of spreading love through her care of both patients and their families. She was also blessed to form lifelong friendships with coworkers. Shella even made time to delight in the great outdoors. She spent many hours on the back of Ernies motorcycle enjoying the open road! Her life was full of van runs and camping trips. Eventually, the open road on a motorcycle was exchanged for the open road in a RV! She would be known to sing On the Road Again by Willie Nelson every time a new RV adventure began. Shella also enjoyed watching Sci-Fi movies, going to Tai-Chi with dear friends, and attending service at Calvary Church. It brought her so much joy to be a greeter at Calvary on Sunday mornings. Shella was preceded in death by her parents, LeeRoy Richardson Sr. and Louise B. Richardson. Shella is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ernest E. Suber; her children Tammi Suber-Duell (Eric), Joy Suber-Berring (Jason), and Marcus Suber (Libni); her grandchildren Jason Jr., Hailee, Jonathan, Chloe, Joshelland, and Marcus Jr; her brother LeeRoy Richardson Jr. (Christine); and a host of Brothers and Sisters in-law, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
