James Lee Grant Obituary

Mr. James Lee Grant, (lovingly Jim Jim), 82, of Waynesboro, PA and formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019. Born December 29, 1936 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Hampton E. and Thelma Marie (Rhinehart) Grant. He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School with the Class of 1955. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, training with 1st Regiment Co. 255 of Bainbridge, MD. He spent time stationed at Pensacola, FL aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge. He was inducted in 1953 and honorably discharged in 1959. He continued his service in the United States Navy Reserves from 1959-1963. He and his first wife, Mrs. Patricia Ann (Gaver) Grant, met at the Ye Ole Grill on the square in Waynesboro. They were married in March 1968 until her passing in September 1993. He later met Annie Mae (Roseboro) Grant at Waynesboro FOE #1758. They were married in September 1994 until her passing in May 2015. Following his military service, he began his working career with the Hagerstown Police Department (1963-1965) later working with the Police Department in El Paso, IL (1965-1966). He later worked for Manbeck Bakery in Hagerstown, MD (1966-1968), Wonder Bread (1968-1973), as a security guard at Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro (1973-1983) and Gibbles Chips (1973-1983). Prior to his retirement in 2016, he had been employed by Martins Famous Potato Rolls since 1996. He was a member of Bert J. Asper American Legion Post #46 and Marine Corp. League, both of Chambersburg and Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #1758, both of Waynesboro. He enjoyed watching Westerns, drinking beer, rocking on the porch and spending time with his kitties, Teddy and lil Missy. He also was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Left behind to cherish his memory are five children, Keith Dwayne Grant and his wife Shelley, whom Jim Jim lived with since 2016, Donna Renee Nead, James Lee Grant, Kenneth Eugene Grant and Thelma “Teena” Marie Merrbaugh; two step-daughters, Debra Lynn Lorris and Heather Ann Marlow; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Ann Franks; and one aunt, Evelyn Mohler. Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
