Daniel Walter Dienst, 56, of Park Rapids, MN passed away on December, 11, 2015 in Ceba City, Philippines. Daniel was born on June 25, 1959 to Richard and Ruth (St. John) Dienst in Faribault, MN. He attended schools in Faribault and Morristown Public schools graduating in May, 1977 from Morristown High School. He enlisted in the US Army on January 6, 1978 and was honorably discharged on December 17, 1980. After the service he worked briefly at Sheldahl in Northfield, MN and the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf in Faribault, MN. He married Elaine Reddy in Mankato, MN on September 1981. The Dienst Family bought Ice Cracking Lodge near Ponsford, MN in 1984 and sold it in 1994. At that time Dan and his family and his parents bought Glory Be Kennels near Park Rapids. Dan and his wife owned the Kennels at the time of his death. Dan enjoyed the outdoors—deer hunting; small game hunting; fishing; biking or walking. He liked guns; reading history of all kinds and reading maps. He was a member of the 4th United Methodist Church in Faribault, MN and Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids, MN. Dan is survived by his wife—Elaine Dienst of Park Rapids, MN; two sons—Jeffery Dienst and Joshua Dienst both of Park Rapids, MN; mother—Ruth Dienst of Park Rapids, MN; sister—Heidi Brown of Park Rapids, MN; maternal aunt—Genie (Grant) Jensen of Grand Forks, ND; daughter-in-law—Myra Morales Loria Dienst and grandson--Wyatt Daniel Dienst both of Iloilo, Philippines and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father—Richard Edwin Dienst; grandparents—Walter and Ella Dienst; grandparents--Lyal and Edith St. John -Paro; —step grandfather--Clyde Paro; aunt--Delores Brownson-Cline (Dienst); and his aunt—Harriet Miller (St, John). Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will begin starting at 9:30 AM until the time of the services. Pastor Chip Nielsen will be Officiating. Honorary Urnbearers are Jeffery Dienst; Joshua Dienst; Grant Jensen; James Krause; James Steffl; David Steffl and all cousins and many friends. Burial will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault, MN.
