Marjorie Sartorius
Marjorie Anne Stansfield Sartorius was born to Reuben and Mary Anna (Forsyth) Stansfield on April 16, 1930 on a farm near Ortonville, MN. She died peacefully on December 11, 2015. She had two sisters, Shirley Sanders and Helen DeVries and three brothers, Russell Stansfield, Craig Bowers and Wayne Bowers. She was baptized and confirmed in the Ortonville Methodist Church. She started school in Rural District 36 and then attended public school in Ortonville, graduating in 1948. She moved to Windom to take a job at the First National Bank. In Windom, Marj was united in marriage to Raymond John Sartorius. She gave birth to Johanna and Paul in Alabama, where Ray was stationed at Camp Rucker when his National Guard unit was activated during the Korean Conflict. Their third child, Mitchell, was born in 1957 in Windom. Ray’s nephew, Topper Burgess, joined the family in 1967. For the 1967-68 school year the family hosted an exchange student from Brasil, Thelma de Mesquita Garcia. It has been a lifelong relationship with visits to and from USA. Marj looked forward to spring break when she and Ray could take their four grandchildren on trips to Missouri and the Black Hills. She enjoyed trips with Ray and her sister, Shirley, to Washington DC, the west coast, Florida and twice to England and Ireland. She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Windom where she was a Sunday school teacher, Release time teacher, and a longtime member of the Evening Circle and UMW. She was also a Cub Scout den mother for several years. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Mitchell and Paul, three brothers, Russell, Craig and Wayne; and one sister, Helen. She is survived by her husband, Ray; daughter, Johanna(Randy) Mills; nephew, Topper(Susan)Burgess; daughter-in-law, Carla Sartorius; grandchildren - Brooks(Carrie) Sartorius, Jenny(Chris) Cunningham, Lindsay(Joseph)Bruette, Alison(Drew)Mills, great grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, and Charlotte; one sister, Shirley; and many nieces and nephews.
