It is with deep sorrow that we the family announce the passing of George Julian Kearney, age 82, on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in New Waterford on November 27, 1932, he was the son of the late Patrick and Melanie (Deschepper) Kearney. A retired coal miner from Lingan Colliery, George was a dedicated family man who loved the comforts of home, stories of the mine and hunting, watching sports as well as homemade Belgian waffles. He sought solace in his faith and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. He was also a recent resident of Acadia House in New Waterford. George is survived by his son Patrick Joseph, his son's wife Christine V (Sydney), twin grandsons David Christopher and Dale Patrick, great-granddaughters Chloe 10, Taylin 5, Rhya 5, and great grand-stepson Hayden 9, all residing in Alberta. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years Sarah Justine Quellette and his brother Michael Bernard Kearney. Cremation has taken place. A chapel service to celebrate George’s life will take place on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Bill Stephenson officiating.
