Monica Agatha Tunink Obituary

Monica Agatha Tunink, 91, passed away Friday, November 13th at the New Homestead in Guthrie Center. Born October 8, 1924 in Clearwater, Nebraska to William Schmitz and Teckla Zieren, she was the youngest of seven children. Monica taught school for grades 1-8 in a one room school house in Nebraska. While in Nebraska Monica found the love of her life, John Tunink, and they were married on June 3, 1947 in Clearwater, Nebraska. After Monica and John were married they decided to move to a farm southwest of Guthrie Center. She was a devoted farm wife and dedicated her life to raising their children. They were blessed with eight children (three sons and five daughters). Monica was very strong in her faith and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar and Rosary, and Bible study groups. She worked at the Guthrie Center high school as the head cook until retirement. Monica enjoyed sewing, canning, gardening, spending time with grandchildren, collecting Nativity scenes, and loved all holidays. She is survived by Val (late Robert) Tunink, Marie (Tim) Rees, John W. (Rosalie) Tunink, Bill (Tonya) Tunink, Kathy (Bill) Mundt, Ann (Dean) Herron, Betty (John) VanGorden, Patricia (Alex) Halsey, 28 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John R. Tunink, son Robert Tunink, granddaughter Lisa Rees, and great granddaughter Lucy Tunink.
