Davis R. Strandemo Obituary

Davis Ray Strandemo, 70, of Kenyon, died at the Kenyon Sunset Home on August 14, 2019 from complications of glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. He was born in Rochester to Raymond and Eileen (Hanson) Strandemo on January 22, 1949, the third of five children. He graduated from Kenyon High School in 1967 and attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, graduating in 1972 with degrees in Business Education and Sociology. From 1972-1978 he worked as instructor of business education for Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, Washington, serving also as volunteer swim coach. He returned to Pacific Lutheran University from 1979-1981 as chief accountant. He was hired in 1982 by Adrian Helgeson and company to become office manager and network administrator for their accounting firm in Minneapolis. He remained with the firm, including through a merger with Virchow, Krause and company, for 18 years until he retired for health reasons. During these years he lived in Edina, Champlin, and Anoka. From 2006 until his death he lived 13 years at Kenyon Senior Living Gunderson Gardens and since January 8th at Kenyon Sunset Home. He enjoyed music, both singing and playing many instruments, photography, arts and crafts, swimming, feeding and watching birds, gardening, cooking, and church activities. He is remembered for his kindness and compassion, teaching and sharing of his talents, and athleticism, and for his love of mother, family, and long-time high school, college and workplace friends. He is survived by his mother, Eileen “Sid” Strandemo, age 93, of Kenyon; brother, Gary (Barbara) Strandemo of St. Cloud; sisters, Annie (Dale) Stensland of Wanamingo, Mary (Rick) Ohland of Miltona; brother, Mark (Trudy) Strandemo of Eagan and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Strandemo (2004); niece, Ana Strandemo (2013) and nephew, Jason Vold (2016). Davis has willed his body to the Mayo Clinic to be used for medical research and study. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 10:30am at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenyon with Pastor Julie Rogness officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Kenyon Senior Living, Heartland Hospice or to the donor’s choice.
