Brian F. Koehler Oakland, Nebraska Obituary

Brian F. Koehler

Brian F. Koehler passed away suddenly at his home in rural Oakland, Nebraska on Thursday, August 15, 2019. Brian was born in Oakland, to Fred and Ruth (Graham) Koehler on March 19, 1948. He attended country school in rural Oakland/Craig and graduated from Oakland High School in 1966. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Lyons, Nebraska. He attended Norfolk Junior College until he was enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1968. He was sent to serve in the Vietnam War shortly thereafter. Prior to his service, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Christoffersen, on February 24, 1968, spending 51 years together. To this union were born a daughter and two sons. After his military service, he was honorably discharged. He and Linda moved to Lyons to raise their family. Brian began his postal career in Lyons, until he became a full-time city of Oakland mail carrier in the early 1980's. He retired from the Post Office on December 31, 2004. After retirement, he was able to return to his love of farm life, working for Gordy Nelson. Brian valued the time he spent with Gordy farming, taking road trips, having long conversations and going to coffee with the guys in Craig. He often said, "when you love what you do, it's not work." He valued being a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lyons. Brian was a modest man, never wanting to be the center of attention. He will be sorely missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruth Koehler. He is survived by his wife, Linda of rural Oakland; his daughter, Carmen and her husband David and their children, Weston and Corrinne of San Jose, CA., his first son, Craig and his wife Caren and their daughter, Adriane of Arvada, CO; his second son, Curtis and his wife Stacy and their children, Rylee and Reid of Wahoo, NE; brother, Graham and his wife Kaye of Newman Grove, NE and their children, Bret and his wife Jasmine Koehler of Toluca Lake, CA, Nicole and her husband Bryce Spann and their children, Julia, Jude and Ruby of Albion, NE. His extended family includes Gary and Peggy Christoffersen of Kennard, NE; mother and father-in-law Aileen and Peter Heintzelman of Fremont, NE and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
