Alice Mae Koch This past Friday afternoon, August 9, 2019, a loving, strong, compassionate 92 year old woman passed from this life into the next. A Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma, was surrounded by her family at The Richard L. Owens Hospice, Peoria. After her severe stroke on May 22, 2019, she made a fabulous recovery passing thru ER, ICU, OSF Hospital, Owens Hospice and Snyder rehab to her home on July 20, 2019. A Celebration of her Life will be from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Sunday August 25, 2019 at Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Washburn, with a time to share memories at the end. The Rev. Will Meachum will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the Minonk TWP Cemetery, Minonk. Memorials may be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice or to the Washburn Ambulance. Alice was born May 16, 1927, 3 miles west of Minonk, Illinois to Carl and Viola (Uphoff) Schmidt. She married Milton Henry Koch on November 26, 1948 in Minonk, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1989. Surviving are her children, Rosann “Rose” (Dean McCullough) Byram, of Metamora, Daniel Koch, living at home, Bonnie (The late Keith) Renken, of Varna, one grandson, Jacob (Emily) Byram, of Kansas City, KS, seven step grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, Sadie Mae Byram, born in June, 2019. Her son, Leslie Koch, preceded her in death in 2003. She was also preceded by her parents, two sisters, Evelyn Sauvage and Dorothy Isaia, both of Roanoke. After graduation from High School, she worked in the Sanitary Bakery, Minonk from 1944 to 1952. She reentered the workforce in 1973 as a waitress at Jack’s Restaurant in Washburn. The restaurant changed names many times; Shims, Marvin’s and Garber’s; but Alice was a main stay, retiring in 1989. Alice enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, watching the birds, gardening and spending time with her family.
