Bernadine M. Jones, 85, of Portage, passed away peacefully at 1:25 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Hobart. She was born October 15, 1933, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Stanley and Barbara (Beninski) Jaskulski. Bernadine was a wonderful homemaker to her husband and daughter and was a foster mother for nearly 30 years for numerous foster children. She enjoyed playing slot machines and drinking Starbucks’ Frappuccino. On July 30, 1965, in Gary, Indiana, she married Cliston Lee Jones, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents. Surviving are one daughter, Michele Jones of Portage; five siblings, Sonny (Shirley) Jaskulski of Lake County, IN, Stanley (Barbara) Jaskulski of Hobart, Frances (Andrew) Werhowatz of Portage, Judy (Mickey) Mirth of Roselawn and Barbara (Ken) Ivasiecko of Demotte; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Cheryl (Don) Fife of Chesterton. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the American Legion Post 260, 5675 Mulberry Ave., Portage, Indiana, 46368, with Chaplain Lisa Casimer officiating.
