Elaine Pearl Kafer

MARQUETTE, MI - Elaine Pearl Kafer, age 74, of Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday morning, August 10, 2019, at the Norlite Nursing Center. Born June 22, 1945, in Adrian, Michigan, the youngest of four children born to Harry and Ella (Cook) Kafer, Elaine was raised in Adrian. Following graduation from high school, Elaine enrolled at Michigan State University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education on June 9, 1968, Cum Laude. Elaine loved children and her early teaching career was spent mostly in Minnesota. She later relocated to Marquette where she resided for 30 years and was a longtime resident of Snowberry Heights. Elaine loved God and her family more than anything. She loved life and was an avid reader. A member of the First Presbyterian Church, she especially liked having lunch on Sundays with her friends at Snowberry Heights after church. Often her discussions would center around her children and grandchildren whom she absolutely adored. She especially enjoyed flying to Texas to visit her children and liked to watch movies, go shopping, and visit with people. Elaine is survived by her son, James Edward (Eugenia) Thomas of Wichita Falls, TX; son-in-law, Dennis Hill of Wichita Falls, TX; her grandchildren, Skyla (Michael) Hill, Steffen (Samantha) Thomas, Jade Thomas, Lauren Anderson, and Parker Anderson; her brother, Dr. Lowell (Sara) Kafer of Florida; a niece, Kathy; and a nephew, David; and a loving extended family. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kelly Elizabeth Thomas Hill; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Harold Prowant; and a brother, Howard Kafer. Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 16, beginning at 2:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm. Rev. Nicholas J. Cammarata will officiate. The family would like to express their appreciation to Pathways and her ACT Team, and the loving, caring staff at Norlite, for their compassionate care and the many kindnesses extended to the family.
