Robert Francis Bushway, Jr. Obituary

Robert Francis Bushway, Jr died on Tuesday, August 6, 2019. He was 74 years old. Affectionately known as Bobby and Bob, he was born in Burlington, Vermont on July 21, 1945 to the late Robert F. and Marion F. Bushway. Just months before his death and through the ministry of Samaritans Purse, Bob came to know that his only comfort in life and death was that he was not his own. He belongs with body and soul, both in life and now in death, to his faithful Redeemer Jesus Christ. Jesus fully paid for Bob’s sins with His precious blood, and has set him free from the power of pain and death. His family grieves and will miss him deeply, but they grieve as those with Hope. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” Psalm 116:15. A 1964 graduate of Edmunds High School in Burlington, Vermont, Bob served his country dutifully with pride and honor for 24 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in the United State Air Force. He served in Vietnam, England, Italy, Florida and many other tours of duty across the world. After retiring in 1988 at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida, Bob worked for J&J Wordwide Services, supervising the maintenance and grounds at Tyndall, until retiring again in 2017. Bob was never known to sit still even for a minute, but always took time to enjoy a good cold beer with his friends and co-workers. Besides working, he loved being around the water and the beaches, relaxing with his friends at the VFW Post 8205 and AMVETS Post 2298, and serving military veterans at Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Nursing Home. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, veteran, neighbor, dedicated and generous friend to many, and child of God. Bob is survived by his son Rob Bushway and his wife Kathi; daughter LaBelle Street; step-son Joe Bragg and his wife Virginia; step-daughter Liz King; sister Joan Ladouceur; and brother Duane Bushway; seven grandchildren, Dax, Maggie, Anna Kathryn, Zoe, Michael, Kristin, and Makenzie; and three great-grandchildren, David, Bella, Paisley. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Rick, his son-in-law Michael, and his beloved wife Linda. A memorial service will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8205 on Bob Little Road, Friday, August 9 from 3-5 PM. Internment with full military honors will follow at the Tallahassee National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials in Bob’s honor may be made to Samaritans Purse @ SamaritansPurse.org; or PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. 828.262.1980.
