Mary A. Heath Obituary

Mary A. Heath, a longtime resident of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the New York State Veterans’ Home, in Oxford, following an illness. She was 89 years old. Born on September 28, 1929, in Guttenberg, New Jersey, Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Paino) Tesoriere. She graduated with the Norwich High School class of 1948 and then began working at the National Bank and Trust Company of Norwich as a student loan officer. She retired from NBT Bank as an assistant cashier in 1994. On May 27, 1972, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, in Norwich, Mary wed the love of her life, John Heath, who predeceased her on July 8, 2018. Mary was an active member of the Ave Maria Guild, the Ladies of Charity, and the Reparation Society of St. Bartholomew’s Church, of which she was a communicant. She worked countless spaghetti suppers, bake sales, funeral luncheons, and other events for the church. Mary was also a volunteer greeter at the Chenango County Historical Society. John and Mary shared over forty years of happiness in their home located on Brown Avenue. Together, they traveled to California together to see family and also enjoyed vacationing on cruise ships. In 2018, John and Mary moved into the Chenango Valley Home on Canasawacta Street, where they enjoyed being together and were able to socialize with longtime friends. Mary is also survived by her two daughters, Joanne and Stanley Westover, of Bonita, CA, and Mary Jane Rogge, of St. Petersburg, FL; two grandchildren, Christian Westover, of Bonita, CA, and Alex Rogge, of St. Petersburg, FL; and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Anthony, and two sisters, Connie and Josephine Tesoriere. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at the Church of St. Bartholomew, where Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call on Tuesday at the Wilson Funeral Home from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the nursing home staff at the NYS Veterans’ Home for the wonderful care they provided to Mary during her stay there. Gratitude is also given to the Chenango Valley Home for the wonderful care they gave to Mary. Contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Bartholomew’s Church Capital Campaign, 81 E.
