Betty Lou Marquis

Betty Lou (McGlasson) Marquis, 77 year-old Vinita resident passed away Tuesday June 18, 2019 in Vinita, Oklahoma. Betty was born on July 23, 1941 in Vinita to Cecil & Allie Mae (Walls) McGlasson. After high school, Betty met and fell in love with Howard “Pete” Marquis. They were married September 23, 1958 and would have celebrated 61 years of marriage this year. Howard and Betty worked hard together to own and operate L&M Auto in Wichita, Kansas for over 40 years, owning it 12 of those years. Betty was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Wichita, where she was very active helping to cook and clean and also loved being a part of the prayer team. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and was so Thankful to finally have daughter in laws, after raising four sons. In her spare time, she loved to read and work word puzzles. Betty loved to cook large meals and have all the family together, even though she said she didn’t. She will be forever missed. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, one son Randy Marquis, and one sister Judy Kay McGlasson. Betty leaves behind, her husband Howard of the home, three sons, Kip Marquis and wife Jonnetta of Vinita, Rick Marquis of Vinita, and Charky Marquis and wife Shelia of Corsicana, Texas, Daughter in law Marci Marquis of Broken Arrow, ten grandchildren Lindsay Knapp, Amber Graham, Kendra Marquis, Jonathon Spyres, Myah Hayes, Dakota Proctor, Allie Thompson, Chloe Marquis, Meleah Marquis, and Morgan Marquis, as well as numerous great grandchildren, one sister Sue Pettigrew of Azle, Texas, and three brothers, Tom McGlasson and wife Mary, Wesley McGlasson and wife Susan, and John McGlasson and wife Debbie, all of Vinita. The Celebration of Life services for Betty will be held 2pm – Friday June 21, 2019 at Cowboy Junction Church with Pastors Dallas McGlasson, Jonathon Spyres, and Wade Markham officiating. Interment will follow at Carselowey Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Burkhalter-Highsmith Funeral Home on Thursday June 20, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm. Betty’s Casket bearers will be Kip, Rick, and Charky Marquis, Ronnie Pettigrew, Wesley McGlasson, & Johnny McGlasson. Betty’s Honorary Casket bearers will be Bob Hoffman, Larry Schaffer, & Tom McGlasson. Online Condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on our Facebook page.
