Obituary
Wilma Scott Smith, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed through the veil June 10, 2019 at the age of 96. She is now with her husband and exremely happy as she has missed him terribly. Wilma was born in Logan, Utah on December 10, 1922 to Henry Dacon Scott and Ida Morrill Scott. She was the 5th of 6 children: James, IdaVee, Mary, Woodrow and Winfield who have preceded her in death. As a child Wilma was a tomboy; she loved to play outdoors, climb trees and try new things. She was always an avid reader. During her high school years she was active in many clubs including riding club, hiking club and ski club. She greatly enjoyed swimming, baseball and basketball. In later years she taught fencing at YMCA. Wilma graduated high school at the age of 16 and immediately entered nurses training in Salt Lake City. Upon receiving her nursing degree she worked at Bushnell Hospital in Brigham City, Utah. It was there that she met her soon to be husband, Lee K. Smith. They were married at her home in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solomized in the Idaho Falls Temple and their 3 children were sealed to them. Wilma was a registered nurse and worked in the nursing field for 45 years. She was supervisor of the surgical department and obstetricsdepartment, she also worked with ophthalmology. She loved her nursing years and often shared experiences with her family. When asked if she ever dreaded going to work she replied, "Not one time." As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Wilma served in many positions, but her favorite was teaching a monthly Relief Society lesson about different countries and their cultures. She had the spirit of Elijah and therefore worked with the extraction program and continued her research for her ancestors until her health failed. She was a longtime member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers through which she shared the history of her deceased family members with others. After retiring from nursing Wilma and Lee traveled many places to visit and enjoy family, longtime friends and distant relatives. Wilma is survived by her 3 children, daughter Cheryl Bentley, son Scott (Susan) Smith, and daughter Cindy (Jerry) Knuth, 13 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee, all siblings and 2 grandchildren, Jeremy Cooper and Andrew Lee Smith. We are certain they are currently having a wonderful family reunion.
