Larry Slocum Obituary

Larry Slocum age 78, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away at his home on June 2, 2019 with his family by his side. He was born on April 20, 1941 in Flint, Michigan to Ernest and Helen (Amie) Slocum. He married Virginia Stewart on October 14, 1961 in Flint, Michigan. Larry served his country in the United States Navy, was an assistant director of Carriage Town Rescue Mission and a member of the First Baptist Church in Flushing, Michigan. He was also a member of the Laborer’s Local 1075. Larry will always be remembered for his storytelling. He enjoyed golfing, baseball, traveling and playing cribbage but most of all he enjoyed his family. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, their children Daran (Amy Husted) Slocum of Flint, Ellen (Blair) Kissel of Fenton and Larry (Connie) Slocum, Jr of Jasper, GA.; grandchildren Vincent (Carmen) Slocum, Michael (Megan) Slocum, Sara Slocum, Ethan, Evan and Alex Kissel, Sam, Abby and Riley Slocum; five great grandchildren, brothers and sisters Nancy (Paul) Corliss, Lon Slocum, Jeanne (Rolly) Anderson and Mark (Rose Lee) Slocum. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Natalja Slocum. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, at Fenton Church of the Nazarene, 11075 Runyan Lake Road, Fenton, Michigan with Pastor Ron Sharpe presiding and inurnment in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit the family at the church on Friday, June 7, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home of Pinconning.
