Betty Hogue Smart went home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2019 at Harris Hospice in Charlotte, N.C. A Celebration of Life for Betty Smart, 94, Charlotte NC will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 2, 2019 at Mount Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mount Harmony Church Rd., Matthews, NC with Pastor Buddy Pigg officiating. The family will receive relatives and family friends at the church following the service. Betty was born June 24, 1924 in York, SC, the daughter of the late Sam Hogue and Betty Chavis Hogue. Betty is survived by her husband Lewis N. Smart, children Sammy (Linda), Jerry (Barbara) and daughter Barbara (David) Croasmun, grandchildren Tonya Safrit, Dac Croasmun, Daniel, Brian and Michael and nine great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by brothers Elmer (Bonnie) and Perry (Claudette). Betty is preceded in death by her twin brother Sam Hogue, Bill Hogue, sister Martha Adkins and grandson Todd Smart. Also preceded in death by half brother and sisters Dovie, Harmon and Etta. Betty loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and family. In lieu of flowers the family asks that Donations by be made to the Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Dept. and Mt. Harmony Baptist Church.
