Reverend Lee Llewellyn Kester, Jr. 90 BRUNSWICK, MAINE — The Rev. Lee Llewellyn Kester, Jr., 90, quietly and peacefully released his spirit on Saturday, December 10 at the Mid-Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick, ME. Lee Kester was born August 20, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA to Henrietta Wenzel and Lee Llewellyn Kester, Sr. He graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa in 1947, and earned his Master of Divinity from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in NJ in 1951. He was ordained by the Reformed Church of America and married Patricia Raff Kester (1929-2008) that same year. Lee L. Kester, Jr. served as Pastor of the Montrose Reformed Church in NY (1951-1954), Associate Pastor of the Bronxville Reformed Church in NY (1954-1964), and Pastor of the Oradell Reformed Church in NJ (1964-1977). In the 1960-70’s he was actively involved in the Peace Movement and worked zealously against racial discrimination and for social justice. In 1978 until 1995, Lee entered the Financial Planning field and worked for IDS (Investors’ Diversified Services) which is now Amerprise Financial. During this time, Lee and Pat attended Trinity Presbyterian Church in Paramus, NJ, where Lee sang both in the choir and in a barbershop quartet. In 1995 they retired to the Thornton Oaks Retirement Community in Brunswick, ME to be nearer their summer cabin on a beautiful, small lake in SW Maine. Lee and Pat were active members of the Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church, in Topsham, ME, where he sang in the choir. Staff at Mid-Coast Senior Health Center remember him for his warm greetings, his smile and his love of music and singing. Lee is survived by his five children, David Lee Kester (Rita) of New York, NY, Deborah Lee Kramer (Jeff) of New York, NY, Stephen John Kester (Alison Eyre) of Ottawa, ON, Canada, Peter John Kester of Alexandria, VA, and the Rev. Martha Ruth Kester of Des Moines, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Adam Kester of New York, NY and Sarah, Olivia, and Joshua Kester of Ottawa, ON, Canada. A memorial service will be held at the Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church, 84 Main St., Topsham, ME on June 17, 2017 at 11 a.m., luncheon following.
