Effie Morgan, 87 of McLaurin, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Asbury Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the McLaurin Methodist Church with interment in McLaurin Cemetery. Effie was a member of the McLaurin Methodist Church. She was an original member and founder of the McLaurin Fire Department. She also was a cook and a co-manager, with her husband, of Paul B. Johnson State Park. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her house was always open to guests. When she was able, she loved going to the boats. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lefty Morgan; her parents, Paul and Mary Hearne; a daughter, Lillie Bell Dixon; two sons-in-law, Johnny Cooley and LeRoy McKenzie; three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Paul (Becky) Morgan of McLaurin; three daughters, Martha McKenzie of Hattiesburg, Wanda Bernice Cooley of McLaurin, Helen Heathcoe Morgan of McLaurin; a sister, Glenda Mae Martin of Houma, LA; eight grandchildren, Tillie (Buster) Long, Shane (Stephanie) Dixon, Geneva (Roni-Starr) Morgan, Tonya (Orrin) Berry, Angel (Ryan) Dye, Johnny (Audra) Cooley, Stephanie Morgan, Austin (Kayla) Cooley; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation for Effie will be from 5:30 until 8 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at the McLaurin Methodist Church.
