Maud Lyter Markunas Obituary

Maud Lyter Markunas, 98, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on September 21, 2018. She was born on July 24, 1920 in Dauphin, PA, the daughter of William and Margaret (Campbell) Lyter. She was a graduate of William Penn High School. Maud graduated from Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and served in World War II as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. There she met and married the late Dr. Francis B. Markunas. Maud is survived by her children: Margaret Weaver, Alexandra Wright (William), Jeanne Markunas, Frances Markunas (Jesse Rosenblum), Ann Fitts, Bernard Markunas (MaryKay), Mary Thomas (Paul), Elizabeth McCartney, Susan Dayan (Christopher); her grandchildren: Michael Weaver, Patience Smith, Gabriel Weaver, Kirsten Cox ,William Wright, Jr., Robert Fitts, Daniel Fitts, Peter Markunas, Nicholas Markunas, Mark Thomas, Robert Thomas, Seth Thomas, Robert McCartney, Andrew McCartney, Jonathan McCartney, Katherine Chilcote, Hannah Dayan, Lisa Loucks, Mandy Rosenblum; great grandchildren: Alexander, Evelyn, Maura, Charlotte, Jensen, Margot, Poppy, Max, Rachel, Eric and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband and parents, Maud was predeceased by her siblings: William Lyter, Robert Lyter, Jean Searight and two sons-in-law, Charles Weaver and John Fitts. Maud was loved by one and all, dedicating her life to family and friends. Sharing her wealth of knowledge was one of her greatest gifts. Maud was a member of Hope United Presbyterian Church, Polyclinic Nurses Alumni Association, a Life Member of American Legion Post 272, Dauphin-Middle Paxton Historical Society, Friends of Fort Hunter, and the Dauphin County Medical Society Alliance. Celebration of Maud's life will be led by Rev. Allison Spooner and Rev. Laura Lyter Bright on Friday September 28, 2018. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM followed by the service at 2:00 PM at Hope United Presbyterian Church, 931 Red Hill Road, Dauphin, PA 17018. Burial will follow in Dauphin Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the medical fund for Maud's great nephew, Johnny Bricker, with checks payable to Ashley Bricker, c/o Zion Lutheran Church, P.O.
