John Gilmore

John Gilmore, 86, of Marcellus passed away Monday November 5, 2018 at home with his family by his side. He was a highly decorated veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army Airborne Ranger where he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Medal, Purple Heart and Conspicuous Service Award (State of New York) and reached the rank of Corporal. He worked for over 50 years with the laborers international union. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. John is survived by his wife of 57 years the former Karen Pitman, sons Dan (Nadine) and Jon (Amanda), grandchildren Sydney, Madison, Reese, Matthew, Samantha and June. He also leaves behind his brothers Bill and Dick and sisters Shirley DeRyke and Ann King and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his brother Tom and sister Marian. Service with military honors for John will be 7 p.m. Thursday November 8 at the Plis Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may call on the family from 5-7 p.m. Thursday prior to the services at the funeral home, 33 North St., Marcellus. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of CNY.
