Ms. Ida Edwards Key McDonough Obituary

Ms. Ida Edwards Key McDonough

Ms. Ida Edwards Key McDonough, 88, passed away Tuesday morning at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for the last five years. Ida Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Viola Edwards of Mt. Airy; her brothers Roscoe (Bud), Henry, and J.W; and sisters Betty Cook and Mary Farmer. Surviving siblings are Roger Edwards and Fay Fleming, both of Mt. Airy; and sons Terry Key of Winston-Salem and Denny Key Sr. (Brenda) of Tybee Island, Ga. Also surviving are grandchildren Michael Key of Winston-Salem, Amanda Shore (Bradley) of Boonville, and Denny Key Jr. (Valerie) of East Bend. Meema was delightfully blessed with seven beautiful great-grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Ida worked at Western Electric/AT&T for over 30 years. Her focus in life, however, was always her family. She and her sisters were known to be on the outlook for someone to help. Ida assumed the role of caregiver to family and friends whenever needed. One instance was a fellow AT&T employee who called for assistance even though they were not acquainted. For 18 years, Mama tended to the needs of her new friend, Ruby. Idas generosity to all, her wonderful cooking, her love of beautiful flowers, and her strong will to live will never be forgotten. The visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at Salem Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Street in Winston-Salem. The service will be conducted by Rev. Kenny Gooden of Union Grove Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Thursday also at Salem Funeral Home. Her burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mt. Airy.
