Gordon Lyle Cady

Gordon Lyle Cady, 88, of Jacksonville, IL, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born May 9, 1928, in Shelton, WA, the son of Morris and Estelle Callarman Cady. He married Mary Fowler of Brooklyn, IL on June 2, 1956, and she preceded him in death on September 11, 1991. He later married Elaine Lantz, also of Brooklyn, IL, on June 6, 1998, and she survives in Jacksonville. Also surviving are one son, Allan Douglas of Seattle, WA; three daughters, Diane (Dan) Smedra of Livermore, CO, Mindy (Jason) Damewood of Monmouth, IL, and Marla (Ken) Serrine of Metamora IL; six grandchildren, Kody, Zachary, Kira, Zander, Zaphod and Zhaan; and one brother, Norman (Beverly) Cady of Washington State. Gordon was a National Guard Veteran and worked for the City of Seattle for 33 years until retirement. His main hobby was Amateur Radio. He was known as WA7AVC in Washington and then as W9AVC in Illinois. He was active with the Studebaker Drivers Club and a member of the North Puget Sound Chapter. He also enjoyed Rallying with the Rainier Auto Sports Club, participating in numerous local events as well as the Alcan 5000 on several occasions traveling from Seattle to Alaska, British Columbia, Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories. He was an unassuming and gentle soul who will be greatly missed by many. A private cremation has been held at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, or the Illinois School for the Deaf Museum, or the Jacksonville Community Center for the Deaf.
