Jean Doherty Murray of Lusby, MD passed away peacefully on October 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born November 2nd, 1937 in Washington, D.C. to Cornelius Hugh and Mary C. Doherty. Jean attended Holy Cross Academy, Saint Agnes Catholic School in Arlington, and Marymount School. She earned an undergraduate degree from Immaculata college in Pennsylvania. As a young girl, photos of Jean and her twin sister Joan often graced the covers of local publications. On May 27, 1961, she married her long-time sweetheart Raymond (Ray) Murray. Jean was a devoted mother who dedicated a tremendous amount of love and energy to raising her four children; Raymond III, Jill, Kelly, and Chris. Jean was an avid volunteer, working for many years with the service league at their local thrift store. She sold Avon and gold jewelry as a home business, and served on the board of Fairfax Memorial Cemetery. Once her youngest son graduated from college, Jean and Ray began a new chapter in their lives by moving to Solomons Island, MD where they frequently enjoyed the company of good friends at the Solomons Island Yacht Club and on the golf course. Jean was a parishioner at our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Solomons, MD. She is survived by her husband Raymond Murray Jr. her four children Ray (Patsy), Jill (Mike), Kelly, Chris (Martha); ten grandchildren Kasey, Kiley, Michael, Hannah, Kolton, Connor, Olivia, Kevin, Meghan and Paige; and three great-grandchildren Brayden, Kylar and Dillan. Sisters Joan Harper, Ann Engeman, and Mary Catherine Doherty, and brother Neil Doherty predeceased her. The family will receive friends at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032 on Thursday, October 25, 2018, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Church, 8800 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003 at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 Burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park
