George R. Macfarlane, Sr. Obituary

George R. Macfarlane, Sr., 91, of Hornell, NY, formerly of Bradford, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Hornell Gardens, Hornell. He was born on June 20, 1927, in Oil City, a son of the late William and Margaret Besse Macfarlane. He was a 1945 graduate of the Bradford Area High School. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the occupation of Japan. On October 30, 1948 he married Norma J. Costanzo in the St. Bernard Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2000. He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. George was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden and woodworking. He was employed by the former Owens-Illinois, Bradford, for forty years until his retirement. He is survived by six children, George (Susan) Macfarlane, Jr. of Bradford, William Macfarlane of Duke Center, Mary Beth (Leroy) Lewis of Hornell, NY, John Macfarlane of Reno, NV, Joan Macfarlane of Lancaster and Melissa Doran of Bradford; seven grandsons; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by an infant son and two brothers, Robert and Michael Macfarlane. There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 25 at 11:00 AM at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Gramata as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation at www.garysinisefoundation.org.
