Janice Springer, 78, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Unity Point, Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, with her loving family by her side.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Janice Genevieve Tough was born on November 6, 1939, in Marshalltown, Iowa; she was the daughter of Leroy and Shirley (Arnold) Tough. She attended school in the Albion Community School and graduated with the class of 1957. She then served her country in the United States Marine Corp. in 1958. When Janice returned to Iowa she was united in marriage to Lyle Dean Springer on May 13, 1966, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. They had lived in Marshalltown, Cedar Falls and moved back to Marshalltown in 1968. Janice was a homemaker and enjoyed baking and making her famous fudge and caramels. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Circle Martha, Church Women United, Garden Club and Card Club. She enjoyed her bowling league for 40 plus years (which included many high 200 games). She volunteered for House of Compassion, Habitat for Humanity, Trees Forever and Cub Scouts. She liked golfing, painting, embroidery, sewing and quilting and always loved to write letters and send cards to those she knew. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 52 years, Lyle Dean; children, Loreene (Dan) Stackhouse of Kennesaw, Georgia, Jeffrey Springer of Eagan, Minnesota and daughter-in-law, Christine Springer of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Alicia (Blake) Matney of Liscomb, Iowa, Sarina (Lance) Flathers of Huxley, Iowa, McKinly (Katarina) Springer of Ames, Iowa, Thomas Stackhouse of Ames, Iowa and Robert Stackhouse of Kennesaw, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Parker and Paige Matney; siblings, Ellen Hazen, Margaret Kroener, Rose Tough and Ruth Dawson; sister-in-law Joan Tough; and many nieces, nephews and family. In death Janice rejoins her son, James “Jim” Springer (2015) and siblings, Robert Tough, Carol Williams, Jim Tough, Barb Specht and Alice Vogt.
