Jose Ortega, age 91, of Newaygo, passed away on October 20, 2018 in Newaygo. He was born on November 13, 1926 to Primitivo and Mecaila (Carizeles) Ortega in Olivia, Texas. He worked with the Grant Public School System. Jose is survived by his wife of 56 years, Manuela, daughter Lupe Canales, daughter Michelle Ortega, son Joe Ortega, Jr., son Robert Ortega, daughter Mary Lou Ortega, son Armando Ortega, granddaughter, Kristina Canales and grandsons Jason Canales, Benito Canales and Ivan Ortega-Rooze. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jesse Ortega. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2018, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Fields-McKinley Newaygo Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, 11:00 am at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with one hour of visitation prior to the service at 10:00 am. Father Steve Geerling will officiate. Burial will take place in the St. Bartholomew Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice.
