Frank James Searcy, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Frank James Searcy, Jr., age 93 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away, Saturday, October 20, 2018 at his home. He was born December 5, 1924, in Carrollton and was the son of the late Frank James Searcy, Sr. and Irma Stovall Searcy. “Pop” graduated from Carrollton High School in 1942 and attended West Georgia College until he was old enough to join the Army Air Corp during World War II. He attended the University of Tennessee Air Force College Training Detachment, and served as a pilot and flight instructor on the AT-6, B-24 and B-25 airplanes from 1942-1946. At the end of World War II he returned to Carollton and joined Carrollton Federal Savings and Loan Association as a teller and retired in 1989 as Senior Executive Vice President. He also served as office manager and accountant of Folds Motor Company and Chalkley Motor Company. During this time he was elected and served as Carroll County Coroner. Mr. Searcy was a community leader serving as president of the Carrollton Rotary Club, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award, Treasurer of the Carrollton Board of Education, and was supervisor for the West Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District. Being a lifelong member of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church, he served on various committees; chairman of the Administrative Board, chairman of Trustees, chairman of the Finance Committee and was chairman of Pastor/Parrish Relations. In 1964, he headed the committee responsible for raising funds to move the Catholic Church to the campus of West Georgia College, which later was dedicated as the Kennedy Chapel. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, being one of the original members of the Little River Gun Club. He was a 50 plus year member of both the Carroll Masonic Lodge #69 and the American Legion. He was an active member of the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park. Until his recent declining health, he enjoyed shooting skeet every Monday morning “with the boys”, going to cardiac rehab and breakfast at Tanner, and driving himself to lunch to meet his diner “family”. With his typical patient nature, he was able to accomplish a feat few others have—getting “Diner Dog” to take a biscuit from his hand. At age 91 and 92, he was given a memory of a lifetime flying again in a fully restored B-25 the “Panchito”. He was often referred to as the ultimate southern gentleman and will be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his daughters, Sue Boutilier and Alice Searcy both of Carrollton; grandchildren, Matt (Ashley) Fulton of Greensboro, Georgia, Leigh Fulton of Samara, Costa Rica; great grandchildren, Lakelynn Fulton, Ridge Sardella, Ashton Sardella all of Greensboro; nephew, Bill (Joan) Searcy of Wetumpka, Alabama and Wilfred Boutilier of Dawsonville, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Gray Searcy; brother, James William Searcy and niece, Barbara Searcy. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 23 from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 24 at 2 p.m. at the Carrollton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Stephens, Rev. Larry Patton and Rev. Tommy Greer officiating. Pallbearers will be Matt Fulton, Wilfred Boutilier, Bill Searcy, Peter Worthy, Danny Muse, David Muse, Donnie Muse and John Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Friendship Class. Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens with the American Legion Post #143 providing military honors. Memorial contributions may be to Tanner Hospice, P.O. Box 1136, Carrollton, GA 30112; Carrollton First United Methodist Church, 206 Newnan Street, Carrollton, GA 30117 or Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park, P.O. Box 1062, Carrollton, GA 30112.
