Joseph Peter Schembri

JOSEPH P. SCHEMBRI Joseph Schembri passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 due to complications of a stroke. Joseph was born to Salvatore & Salvina Schembri in Mosta, Malta in 1946. His parents, brothers Anthony, Charles and five infants preceeded him in death. He is survived by his sons Charles and David (Cheryl) and his two beautiful granddaughters Bella and Leia. He also leaves behind his twin sister Lucarda (Lu), his sister Mansuetta (Sue) and brothers John and Peter. Joe was proud brother-in-law to Carmen, Mary, Thomas and Vincent as well as doting uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Joe loved Malta, cherished his heritage and the values it represented. At the same time he revered America, embraced and treasured what it stood for, and did not hesitate when summond to serve in Vietnam. Joe had a perceptive mind, keen intellect, and an inherent knowledge of facts and figures; this helped him in the variety of jobs he held throughout his life. In the early years Joe was a Bartender for various large hotels in San Jose. He then spent 10 years working for a large trucking company in Kansas City, Missouri starting as a truck driver and advancing to Director of Line Haul Operations. Most recently Joe retired from his job as Postal Carrier in San Jose after 20 years of service. Prior to his illness Joe worked part-time as a Bartender in San Jose. When he was not working Joe spent as much time with family as he could and he especially cherished his time with granddaughters Bella & Leia. Joe was a voracious reader and any free time was occupied with books. Although we feel that Joe was taken from us much too soon, we take comfort in the fact that he lived life to the fullest and his suffering ended when God called him home.
